Traditional Christmas Turkey Recipe

Serves 6

Ingredients

Method

1 lb. whole turkey (preferably free-range)
Salt and pepper to taste
1 orange, quartered
1 lemon, quartered
1 onion, quartered
2 cups chicken broth
½ cup unsalted butter, melted
3 tbsp. dried rosemary
2 tbsp. dried sage
1 loaf day-old bread, cubed
2 medium onions, diced
2 stalks celery, sliced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 apple, peeled, cored and finely diced
1 cup dried cranberries
1 tsp. dried thyme
1 tsp. dried rosemary, crushed
½ tsp. salt
¼ tsp. black pepper
1½ cups chicken broth

Start by preheating your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.

Splendidly season the inside of the turkey with salt and pepper. Stuff it with the orange, lemon, and onion quarters.

In a small pan, warm the chicken broth and mix in the melted butter, dried sage, and rosemary.

Place the turkey in a roasting pan and generously brush the herbed mixture over the turkey.

Next, prepare the stuffing. Sauté onions, celery, and garlic until soft. Add to a large bowl with remaining stuffing ingredients and mix until combined.

Stuff this flavorful mixture into the turkey cavity. If you have excess stuffing, bake it separately in a casserole dish.

Cover the turkey lightly with foil and roast in the preheated oven for 2.5 hours.

After this time, remove the foil, baste it with pan drippings and continue cooking about 45 minutes to 1 hour, basting every 15 minutes until the skin turns golden brown and the temperature reads 165 degrees Fahrenheit at the thigh's thickest part.

Once done, let it rest for about 15-20 minutes before carving to allow the flavorful juices to redistribute through the meat.

Finally, carve up your beautiful Christmas Turkey and serve it up hot with much love this festive season. Enjoy!
