Place the saltine crackers on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer.
Melt the unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Once melted, add the brown sugar.
Stir the butter and sugar mixture until it reaches a boil. Let it boil for about 3 minutes until it forms a caramel consistency.
Pour the caramel over the saltine crackers and spread it evenly using a spatula.
Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 5 minutes.
After removing the baking sheet from the oven, sprinkle the chocolate chips over the caramel layer.
As the chocolate begins to melt over the warm caramel, spread it out evenly with a spatula.
Sprinkle chopped nuts over the melty chocolate layer. Add salt to taste, to balance out the sweetness.
Allow the Christmas Crack to cool completely before breaking it into pieces.
