North American, Side Dish Nut Free, Green Tomatoes

Fried Green Tomatoes

4 Green Tomatoes
½ cup All-Purpose Flour
1 Egg
½ cup Milk
½ cup Cornmeal
½ cup Bread Crumbs
1 tsp. Salt
½ tsp. Black Pepper
Vegetable Oil (for Frying)

Slice the tomatoes into 1/2-inch thick rounds.

Place the flour on a plate. In a shallow bowl, beat together the egg and milk. On another plate, mix together the cornmeal, bread crumbs, salt, and pepper.

Heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat.

Dip each tomato slice in the flour to coat, then in the egg mixture, and then in the cornmeal mixture.

Fry the coated tomato slices in the hot oil until they are golden and crispy, about 2 minutes per side.

Drain the fried green tomatoes on paper towels before serving.
