North American, Sweet Treat, Plain Flour

BeaverTails (A Type of Pastry)

Ingredients

½ cup Warm Water
5 tsp. Active Dry Yeast
1 Egg
1 cup Warm Milk
⅓ cup Sugar
1½ tsp. Salt
⅓ cup Unsalted Butter (melted)
4½ cups All-Purpose Flour
2 qt. Vegetable Oil (for Frying)
Toppings Like Cinnamon Sugar, Nutella, Or Lemon Juice And Sugar

In a large bowl, stir the yeast into the warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes, until foamy.

Beat in the egg, warm milk, sugar, salt, and melted butter.

Gradually mix in the flour until a dough forms.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, until smooth.

Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a towel. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Heat the oil in a deep fryer or large saucepan to 375°F (190°C).

Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 pieces. Roll out each piece into a thin oval.

Fry the ovals in the hot oil for about 1 minute per side, until golden. Drain on paper towels.

While still warm, sprinkle the BeaverTails with your chosen toppings.
