Pouding Chômeur

Serves 8

Ingredients

Method

½ cu Unsalted Butter (softened)
¾ cu Sugar
1 Egg
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
2 cu All-Purpose Flour
1 tbsp Baking Powder
½ tsp Salt
1¼ cu Milk
1½ cu Brown Sugar
1½ cu Heavy Cream
¼ cu Unsalted Butter
¼ cu Maple Syrup

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the butter mixture, alternating with the milk.

Spread the batter evenly in the prepared baking dish.

In a saucepan, combine the brown sugar, heavy cream, butter, and maple syrup. Bring the mixture to a boil, then pour the hot syrup over the batter in the baking dish.

Bake the pudding for about 45 minutes, or until the top is golden and the syrup is bubbly.

Allow the pudding to cool for a few minutes before serving. It's traditionally served warm, often with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
