Pilau (East Africa)
Serves 4
Ingredients
Method
½ kg. Beef (Chuck Or Shank), Cubed
2 tbsp. Vegetable Oil
1 Onion, Sliced
2 Garlic Cloves, Minced
1 tbsp. Pilau Masala
2 cups Basmati Rice
4 cups Water
Salt to Taste
Boil the Beef until tender.
Heat the oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until it's soft and starting to brown.
Add the garlic and pilau masala to the pan and cook for a few more minutes until fragrant.
Add the beef to the pan and cook until it is browned on all sides.
Add the rice to the pan and stir well to combine. Cook for a few minutes until the rice is lightly toasted.
Add the water and a pinch of salt. Bring the mixture to a boil.
Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and let it simmer for about 20 minutes, until the rice is tender and all the liquid is absorbed.
Fluff the rice with a fork before serving. Enjoy the Pilau hot.
