Traditional British, Main Course Vegetarian, Cheese - Cheddar (Strong Grated)

Cheese and Onion Oat Flan

Method

130 g. Wholemeal Flour
130 g. Medium Oats
¼ tsp.  Salt  to taste
130 g. Butter
2 tbsp. -3 tbsp Water
2 tbsp. Olive Oil
2 Onion (Finely Chopped)
2 Eggs
160 ml. Milk (Full Fat)
270 g. Cheese - Cheddar (Strong Grated)
¼ tsp. Salt & Pepper
75 g. Plain Flour for board when rolling out pastry 

Place the flour, oatmeal and salt in a mixing bowl and rub in the butter. The mixture will resembles breadcrumbs.

Add the water, but not all at once in case you don't need it all, and mix to a firm dough. ¡

Flour your work top and knead lightly until you have a smooth dough.

Roll out the dough into a circle larger than the 20cm tart dish and line the dish with the pastry. Trim the edges and chill in the fridge for 20 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 190ºC / 375ºF.

Meanwhile, make the filling.

Heat the oil in the pan, add the onions and saute gently until transparent.

Mix the egg and milk together then stir in the cheese, onions and salt and pepper to taste.

Pour the mixture very carefully into the case making sure not to spill any and bake in a preheated oven for 35-40 minutes.

Serve hot or cold with a green salad.
